The temporary isolation of the house forced us to buy quite a lot of products for future use. And a natural problem arose – how to keep stocks fresh for several weeks. We have prepared 8 small secrets that will save your products and money.

Cereals and pasta

The most popular, perhaps, long-term storage products are cereals. And all would be fine, but bugs can start in them. To avoid this, you need to do a few simple manipulations. The first step is preparing the croup. To eliminate possible bugs that already live in bags, cereals must either be frozen (sent to the freezer for a couple of days) or ignited in the oven. In the latter case, put the cereals in an even layer on a baking sheet and send them to an oven preheated to 150 degrees for 25-30 minutes. In the process, take out and mix a couple of times. The groats should not burn but only dry out.

The second step is to prepare the container. Transfer all available cereals to clean glass jars. If there are more stocks than cans, plastic bottles will work. First, they need to be washed well and dried thoroughly. Cereals will be stored under a tightly closed lid for more than one month.

Flour

Another product that many take with a margin is flour. To avoid bugs in large quantities of flour, add a couple of bay leaves or garlic cloves to a bag or jar. Do not worry about the intense aroma. Such flour is quite suitable for sweet pastries, but unnecessary animals will bypass it.

Tomato paste

Many homemakers at least once found an unpleasant surprise in the form of mold in a jar of tomato paste. To avoid this, distribute the paste in ice cube trays and freeze. Then transfer to a bag and store as such in the freezer. Portion tomato paste is also convenient.

Vegetables

Most often, onions and potatoes are stored together in refrigerator drawers. But this is not entirely correct. To prolong their freshness, it is best to keep them separate. In addition, the storage of potatoes with apples can prevent the germination of potatoes.

Fruits and berries

Oranges and apples tolerate long-term storage quite well. But bananas can start to darken after 24 hours. To avoid this, separate the branch and wrap each branch in foil or cling film. In this form, bananas will stay fresh for 3-4 days longer.

Keeping in foil will also help preserve broccoli, celery stalk, and leafy greens.

The best way to preserve berries is to freeze them. But if you prefer fresh berries, then after the purchase, rinse them in 1 liter of water with the addition of 100 ml. vinegar. Such a solution will help keep the berries from mold and rot for longer.

Cheese

Storing cheese in a plastic bag or cling film leads to a relatively rapid appearance of an unpleasant odor and sometimes mold. To avoid this, wrap the cheese in parchment paper so it can “breathe.” Change the paper to a new one every 5-7 days.

Milk

Fresh milk, like cottage cheese, for example, perfectly tolerates freezing. So it is quite possible to freeze large volumes. But so that the milk does not sour quickly in the refrigerator, add a pinch of salt to the bottle and mix thoroughly. This will not affect the taste, and the milk will stay fresh longer.

Bread

If you’ve bought more bread than you can eat soon, don’t be afraid to freeze it too. It is best to pre-cut into portions. But the celery stalk will help keep the bread soft. Put it in a bread bag and store it in a bread bin or on a shelf.

With proper storage, all purchased products will stay fresh for as long as possible, and you will remain at home for the time being.
